DBTuna is a simple to use Performance Management solution for databases and storage. A central installation of DBTuna provides 24 x 7 deep-dive monitoring and bottleneck detection for any combination of Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL and NetApp.
It is highly scalable working equally well for a single storage device or database instance through to complex environments with 100’s of storage systems and database instances.
How does DBTuna work?
DBTuna continuously monitors all of your database instances and NetApp storage systems – storing a detailed history of activity, latency and time spent waiting for resources in a performance repository. This data is correlated, aggregated, sorted and displayed via an intuitive web based user interface which thus provides essential analysis for:
- Bottleneck Identification and Resolution
- Capacity Planning & Change Management
- Performance Comparisons & Optimisation
- Database Tuning
- Elimination of Wasted Storage
If you have database data files stored on NetApp volumes, then DBTuna will provide a powerful visual representation of I/O from the database perspective correlated with the I/O of your storage system. There is no easier way to really understand what is going on and keep on top of performance.
DBTuna takes a time-based approach to monitoring, allowing you to examine the performance of SQL statements over time and where that time was spent, for example, fetching, sorting or waiting on a lock. The statements are then ranked with the worst performing at the top. Data is also aggregated by session, user, database and host, allowing you to quickly drill up and down. Once you have identified a problematic statement you can click on the text and it will take you to the SQL screen where you can examine the execution plan.
Other screens within DBTuna allow you to see the performance of sessions currently connected, view database statistics and browse database objects.
DBTuna is highly granular compared to other solutions giving powerful visibility into short term events as well as long term trends. This is achieved in a production safe way with minimal overhead. For example the historical data allows the DBA to answer questions such as: “What caused the slowdown in the application yesterday after lunch?” or “Why is the overnight batch job still running at 9 am this morning?” The historical data can also be used in a proactive manner; for example, to assess upward trends in SQL or application resource usage or to tune and fix issues before they become end-user problems.
A unique comparison mode provides valuable insight in a number of situations e.g. comparing performance between load testing runs, comparing performance of servers, tracking resource usage for capacity planning and comparing performance pre and post migration.
DBTuna saves time and money. It puts you in control and improves end-user satisfaction. It is highly rated for ease of deployment, ease of use, ease of maintenance and reliability.
According to a recent customer satisfaction survey 90% of DBTuna users would recommend DBTuna to others.
