Launch of New Automation Tool for Software Development and Maintenance of SaaS Applications

The quickening pace and complexity of web and SaaS applications development release cycles and the need "to do more with less" has been placing considerable strain on IT departments. They face a daunting task of managing more and more software releases and maintenance updates in the OnDemand environment with fewer skilled resources.
"With approximately 75 percent of the operations' IT budget spent on simply maintaining existing IT operations, improvements in automation can represent big savings," according to Glenn O'Donnell, senior analyst at Forrester Research.
Now help is at hand with the launch of a new Development and Operations automation tool from Nolio and early customers, including online gambling and SaaS companies, are reporting dramatic results with 600% accelerated application release time, application downtime reductions of 80% and servicing/software maintenance cost savings of 75%.

The Nolio ASAP platform supports the growing trend to merge applications development with IT operations into a streamlined multi-skilled "DevOps" team to enable flawless and timely application release. The ASAP tool helps them deal with the increased volume of application changes, release failures, service bottlenecks, poor IT productivity and reduced operational agility caused by more complex, constantly recombined, data center applications.

I had the opportunity to meet recently with Eran Sher, one of the founders and EVP of Products and Business Development and Scott Dainty, newly appointed European Sales Director of Nolio in London.

Eran Sher was quick to point out that "IT teams are struggling with the growing challenges and complexities of releasing and servicing applications in the data centre - reliably, on time, and with quality. Existing infrastructure automation tools are limited and not built to handle application complexities. The alternative up until now has been manual and semi-automated "script-based" approaches to application service tasks which are uncoordinated, time-consuming, error prone, and do not scale - draining both labour and budget resources."

The Nolio ASAP fosters collaboration across development and operation teams by:
  • Automating, control and manage application services on physical, virtual, and cloud environments using "drag and drop" graphical tools
  • Decreasing application downtime by 80 percent.
  • Shortening application release time up to 90 percent.
  • Cutting the time and cost of servicing even the most complex multi-tier applications up to 75 percent.
  • Ensuring audit, report, and control application service operation compliance.
One of Nolio's early SaaS software customers is LivePerson who provide a real-time chat platform for 7,000 customers including some of the largest and most-recognized global brands. They host upwards of one million conversations a day. Zohar Friling, VP of production operations for LivePerson is pleased to report that "Having this large user base, our IT operation teams handle a high volume of weekly application updates, ranging from large scale releases to routine weekly updates and emergency bug fixes. With Nolio, we have been able to automate application updates across hundreds of servers and global data centers, eliminating errors and gaining control over our application releases, while reducing execution times by up to 85 percent and increasing operational agility."
