Visana chooses dynaTrace to improve performance management of its SOA applications
dynaTrace software, the innovator and emerging leader in application performance management, announced today that Visana, one of the leading health insurers in Switzerland, has chosen dynaTrace to improve performance of its distributed SOA applications.
In 2008, Visana completed an overhaul of their IT systems introducing a new, heterogeneous distributed system environment comprising four main systems:
• the core system, adcubum Syrius, for handling day-to-day business;
• the customer relationship management tool Vision Enterprise;
• the document management system based on FileNet P8; and,
• an in-house customized service portal which provides an automated control system for information such as doctors’ invoices.
Once implementation of the new systems was complete, some of the applications –particularly the business critical core application Syrius – were underperforming against mandated SLAs. To address the issue, Visana engaged dynaTrace in a proof of concept deployment during which the root causes of several application performance bottlenecks were quickly identified. dynaTrace was able to trace critical application issues end-to-end throughout the entire application pathway, from the Syrius Client to the application server and down to the source-code and run-time level. This new level of transaction-level visibility enabled Visana to react to problems more quickly and prevent problems occurring in the production environment earlier in the application lifecycle.
dynaTrace has now been deployed in the development department to identify and eliminate architecture and performance problems in distributed applications as early as possible in the application lifecycle. This ensures that the development costs for complex high-performance SOA applications are kept as low as possible by catching problems when they are relatively inexpensive to find.
The next phase of the dynaTrace deployment at Visana will help the insurer optimize its change process and enable them to proactively handle issues caused by frequent new releases of their applications. dynaTrace will provide continuous operational visibility and control with its deep, transactional-level root cause analytics and by capturing IT infrastructure performance metrics for further analysis and reporting.
Gregor Ineichen, leader of architecture, security and change management at Visana commented: “Our aim is to employ dynaTrace in all departments from development to production to ensure our business operations run smoothly.”
About dynaTrace
dynaTrace is the innovator and emerging leader in application performance management (APM). The company offers the only continuous APM system on the market – one that can monitor all transactions at all times and one that is used by all key contributors to application performance – architects, development, test and production. Industry leaders such as UBS, Salesforce.com, EnerNOC, Fidelity, and Thomson Reuters use dynaTrace’s patent pending technology to gain deep visibility into application performance, identify problems sooner and reduce the mean time to repair issues by 90%. Leading companies rely on dynaTrace to proactively prevent performance problems from happening and quickly resolve those that do occur – saving time, money and resources. Monitor. Resolve.
