SafePeak in-memory caching improves performance
AP’s top technical whizz, Mick McGuinness, outlines the benefits of using SafePeak, a caching tool that sits between the SQL server and applications technology. SafePeak improves performance by reading the in-memory cache, meaning that read requests to the SQL server are minimised and read requests are fulfilled faster.
No changes are necessary to the application, whether it’s SharePoint, Dynamics CRM, third party software or even your own-developed applications. The SafePeak server is installed – simply supply IP address and port number – and instantly 80% to 90% of requests are fulfilled from the memory cache without going to the SQL server.
In tests run by Mick, the following results were achieved:
Looking at a time series chart, you can see that average response times
- BEFORE run at approx 2 seconds, with a throughput of 600 requests over a 3 minute period.
- AFTER, the response time reduces to 1.5 seconds, and throughput increases to 800 over 3 minutes.
In terms of resource consumption,
- BEFORE: 2 minutes on SQL server / 1400 executables per minute.
- AFTER: 1 minute on SQL server / 227 executables per minute.
